Travel Information

We are aware this may be your first trip to Mexico City, so it is our priority to provide you with information to make you feel prepared and comfortable for your journey.

We understand that being in a new city (or country) can be intimidating, particularly when you don't speak the native language. We will say, Mexico City is very welcoming and people will help you through your Spanglish and directions, so go explore!

If you have any questions, please call or text either of us. We are happy to help!

Flights

Mexico City International Airport (MEX)

Most International Airports offer direct flights! We recommend setting up flight trackers to let you know when prices drop. Google Flights, Kayak and Hopper are great tools to track flight prices. We found the most reasonable prices are 3-4 months out.

If you are close to San Diego, we highly suggest using the CBX tunnel at the Tijuana Airport for unbeatable flight prices.

Travel time from the airport to the recommended neighborhoods is about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

Transportation

Uber is the recommended mode of transportation in Mexico City. It is safe, quick and wildly inexpensive. We suggest using it to and from the airport and while exploring the city. If you are staying at a hotel, you can contact your concierge desk to help schedule an airport transfer.

*Allow plenty of time for travel, as traffic can be heavy in CDMX.*

Mexico City also has a public bicycle system called Ecobici, similar to Citi Bike and Bird rental transportation services.
We do not recommend renting a car while in Mexico City

Elevation

CDMX is based at the top of a mountain, so please be prepared for an altitude change depending on where you're traveling in from. It sits right at 7,350 sq ft above sea level. Stay hydrated, pack electrolytes, and if you can, try to arrive at least a day or two before the wedding day to help better acclimate.

Where to Stay

Neighborhoods

We are recommending our family and friends stay in one of the following neighborhoods:

Polanco

This neighborhood provides a more upscale experience with historic mansions, world class dining and shopping. If staying here, we recommend staying near Parque Lincoln for easier access to shopping, dining and activities.

Roma Norte

If you are looking for a more trendy or lively experience, Roma Norte is the place for you. Designated a Barrio Magico (magical neighborhood) With trendy cafes, fusion restaurants and vintage thrift stores, there is something to do at every corner.

La Condesa

This neighborhood is similar to Roma Norte with beautiful tree-lined streets and hip eateries. But, with a more easy going vibe. Plenty to do and all within walking distance. If staying here don’t forget to stop by Parque Espana to see all the local dogs!

If you have any questions on where to stay or would like recommendations of any hotels or Airbnb’s, please reach out to either of us - we are happy to help!
